ToggleWhat is iExec RLC (RLC)?
iExec RLC (RLC) is a cloud computing platform that offers blockchain-based participants to extend their computing power and data sets required to keep the blockchain systems fully operational. In lieu of offering these services, the participants get rewarded making it a win for all in the ecosystem. iExec RLC leverages ‘XtremWeb-HEP’ – an open-source desktop grid software to run operations that are linked to multi-applications, fault-tolerance, multi-users, deployment of virtual images, private infrastructure, data management, and security-linked tasks.
Who are the founders of iExec RLC (RLC)?
Gilles Fedak is the founder and CEO of iExec RLC. Before stepping into the shoes of a founder, Fedak worked at INRIA as a research scientist. He holds a Ph.D. degree in computer science and philosophy.
Haiwu He is the head of APAC iExec and is also the co-founder. Haiwu was also the founder of iRentCPU and a research engineer expert at INRA. He holds a Ph.D. in computing sciences.
How does RLC work?
The network of iExec RLC has computing resource providers called iExec RLC workers. If an individual wants to earn RLC tokens they need to connect their devices to offer the computing power to the network. The network has its own consensus mechanism called PoCo to provide consensus on off-chain computing. The resource providers have proof of participation on the blockchain as a result of PoCo.
iExec offers virtual cloud infrastructure for dApps that require storage on the blockchain.
Key Attributes of iExec RLC (RLC)
Oracle Services: iExec offers oracle services for dApps to get data in real-time. With a data source, a browser anyone can fetch data from a data point for their blockchain-based solution. Since we know blockchains operate in silos and do not interact with data sets outside, Oracles help applications on the blockchain to work in real-time.
Web3 marketplace: In a blockchain, renting and finding memory or disk space within the Blockchain cloud services can be a challenging task. Users can connect their devices and rent out their memory/ storage for RLC tokens. All these operations are done on top of a blockchain making it easier for participants to track their activity.
iExec SDK: Users can utilize the SDK to access the js library and CLI to execute ‘off-chain’ computations via the iExec decentralized cloud.
