Proposal limiting Proof-of-work rejected by EU Parliament Committee Vote
The proposed rule which could when in effect have banned the popular crypto asset Bitcoin across the entire European Union has been rejected. It was on Monday the European parliament’s committee voted to put the provision out of the draft of the proposed Markets in Crypto Assets (MiCA) framework. This is the comprehensive package created by the EU to regulate the digital asset market.
This provision was added the previous week to limit the use of the crypto assets that are powered by extensive use of energy and require a lot of computing power since they run on the proof-of-work mechanism.
