Austin Mayor Embraces Web3 Tech And Crypto Payments
Austin, Texas Mayor Steve Adler has proposed two new initiatives, which will be voted by the city’s council on March 24:
Using web3 in 20 fields ranging from smart contracts, supply chain management, insurance, arts, media, fundraising, and identity verification, the first initiative aims to ensure that the city promotes the benefits of blockchain technologies and “promotes equity, diversity, accessibility, and inclusion” in the technological ecosystem.
The city manager is required to conduct a “fact-finding research” on how the city could embrace Bitcoin (BTC) and cryptocurrency-related policies under the second initiative. Mayor Adler appears to want to create ways for Austin people to lawfully pay their bills using cryptocurrency through these efforts.

Ethereum Staking Protocol Swell Raises $3.75M
Last week, Ethereum crossed a crucial milestone in its long-awaited move to proof-of-stake, with the Ethereum 2.0 staking contract now holding 10 million ETH (about $26 billion). Amidst this backdrop, Swell, a new staking system, has raised $3.75 million in a seed round led by Framework, IOSG Ventures, and Apollo Capital.
The key benefit of Swell, according to the company, is that it makes it easier for customers to earn additional income through in-app “vaults.” In April, Swell expects to launch its beta on the Ethereum mainnet. Later on, the company wants to expand to more blockchains, beginning with Avalanche and Polygon.
