One of the most talked about ‘Ethereum Killer’ crypto network; Solana; has new update from their June 2022 announcement about them working on a Web3 smartphone. The Solana Saga is here! The Solana team has really made it happen! They created a Web3 smartphone, which is now being rolled out to people who had pre-ordered the device. Not to worry, the team will be taking new orders for the smartphone, which is said to start from May 8, 2023.

The team had launched the Saga mobile with a live stream! Back in October 2022, Anatoly Yakovenko, the co-founder of Solana Labs commented that, this device is going to be built with features, which will offer a fresh alternative than what the current business models uses; for example, companies like Google or Apple. He went on to describe Saga as “This is one of the moonshots.” The models are going to be cheap enough for people to try.
The analysis from Decrypt, who has had the phone with them for a while said that using the phone felt like beta testing a project which has promise and potential. The Saga feels like a “Web2 device with a splash (albeit a meaningful one) of Web3 integration.” While that being said, the Solana Saga is quite capable and a powerful Web3 phone which also has the native, secure wallet functionality which makes it an exciting and an intuitive device. However, it does have a few available apps along with some hitches on the way.

As the first of its kind, Web3 smartphone makes it debut, the Solana labs team is not expecting it to have a huge sell. During his visit to TechCrunch’s annual global startup conference, Yakovenko had mentioned that the Solana team is not expecting high sales volume for the Saga. He also added thatthe team will be happy if the device generates about 25,000 to 50,000 units’ sale in 2023.

Web3 now on the go! What separates the Saga by Solana from a typical smartphone is the Web3 integration on the mobile. It is also the key reason why anyone will even consider the Saga over any standard flagship phones available on the market.
