An anonymous digital artist nicknamed Pak created The Merge NFT. The original NFT piece was a single artwork. It was composed of a collection of “masses” that users could buy. However, it was fractionalized to 312,686 pieces and distributed to 28,983 buyers. The pieces could then be stockpiled to make a bigger mass to be sold on a secondary market. By the end of the sale, the amount garnered made it the most expensive NFT sold to date.

2. The First 5000 days – $69.3 million 

The First 5000 Days is an NFT artwork created by Michael Winkelmann, a digital artist known as Beeple. It is an important artwork in the NFT community as it paved the way for mainstream audiences to explore on-fungible assets.

3. Beeple, Human One – $29.9 million

Beeple’s Human One NFT is the first human of the Metaverse space. The NFT of Human One is an ongoing journey that changes based on the time of the day and will continue to evolve over time.

4. CryptoPunk #7523 – $11.75 million 

CryptoPunks is an NFT collection that consists of uniquely generated characters based on the Ethereum blockchain. CryptoPunk #7523, also dubbed “Covid Alien is the most expensive NFT CryptoPunk sold to date. 

The NFT belonged to a series of rare aliens, which consisted of 9 “Alien Punks.”

5. CryptoPunk #3100 – $7.58 million

CryptoPunk #3100 is part of the 9 Alien Punks series, and it’s slightly above CryptoPunk #7804 as one of the most expensive NFT Alien Punks sold to date. As only only 406 of the 10,000 CryptoPunks have a headband, this NFT garnered such a high value, after CryptoPunk #7804.

6. Xcopy: Right-Click and Save As Guy – $7.09 million

Xcopy, known for his dystopian- and death-themed works, has created the Right-click and Save As guy. He gave this name to his NFT artwork as a joke for those who think that NFTs are not that special because they can simply be right-clicked and downloaded.

7. Art Blocks, Ringers #109 – $6.93 million

Art Blocks is a storefront for genuinely programmable and on-demand generative artwork that is stored directly on the Ethereum blockchain. Ringers #109 is one of the artwork from their collection of 99,000 Art Block NFTs.

8. Beeple, Crossroads – $6.6 million

Mike Winkelmann, better known by his artistic pseudonym Beeple, created an animated NFT called  Crossroad. The animated NFT features Donald Trump, the former US President, lying on a field while bystanders ignore him.

9. This Changed Everything – $5.4 million 

This Changed Everything is an NFT of the source code used for one of the earliest versions of the World Wide Web. It comes with several perks for the owner, like:

• A letter written by Sir Timothy John Berners-Lee, an English computer scientist and the inventor of the internet.
• A digital poster of the code written by him, and
• Few time-stamped documents that recorded the history of the internet in its early days.

10. Save Thousands of Lives – $4.5 million

Noora Health, an organization that saves the lives of at-risk patients in South Asia created the Save Thousands of Life NFT to help them raise funds. This artwork made it to the top list of most expensive NFT with the selling price of 1337 ETH, worth $4.5 million in May 2021. The profits were allocated to the organization’s program aimed at saving newborns’ lives instead.
